SIG Pediatric Pain

Aim of the SIG Pediatric Pain:

Pain in childhood and adolescence is increasing in our society and affects both somatic and psychological health as well as the personal and educational development of young patients. Not only the children and adolescents are affected, but to a large extent also their family environment with a significant impact on the quality of life of the entire family system. In order to avoid long-term and severe pain disorders, especially in this young patient group, an early multimodal and interprofessional therapy is of particular importance.

Interprofessional outpatient centers for children and adolescents with chronic pain are only sporadically available in Switzerland, and specialized inpatient services are largely lacking. The SIG would like to advocate for an improvement of the care situation for young people with chronic pain.

Network:

The Special Interest Group (SIG) “Pediatric Pain” wants to make pain medicine for children and adolescents “visible” for therapists as well as for those affected and to establish an official vessel for multiprofessional networking. With the help of the SIG, we would like to raise awareness of the topic of chronic pain in children and adolescents and promote therapeutic and scientific exchange, continuing education and research projects.

Public Relations:

To strengthen the establishment and standardization of biopsychosocial understanding in the treatment of young pain sufferers, both in the health care system and in the general public. In an open and integrative exchange between the disciplines involved, mutual understanding in dealing with young pain sufferers is to be promoted. Existing knowledge about the phenomenon of pain in children and adolescents is to be made more accessible. The online presence of the SIG allows information and materials to be made available to those affected as well as to therapists.

Education:

Continuing education courses in pain medicine for children and adolescents for specialists from various disciplines are to be developed and established.

Services:

The SIG serves as a point of contact for pain therapy issues in children and adolescents in research, practice and continuing education.
