Advance your expertise in Pain Physiotherapy with the EFIC EDPP Exam
Applications are now open for the European Pain Federation EFIC Diploma in Pain Physiotherapy (EDPP), a recognised qualification designed to advance clinical expertise in pain physiotherapy. The EDPP supports physiotherapists in developing advanced, evidence-based competencies in pain assessment and treatment, contributing to improved patient outcomes and professional recognition across Europe.
The next EDPP Part 1 exam will take place virtually on 13 November 2026, with a registration deadline of 13 October 2026.

ACHD 2026 Tripartite Conference

The ACHD Tripartite Congress will take place on 9 May 2026 in Austria.

Interview on the first selective sodium channel blocker VX-548 for acute pain
The FDA has approved the first selective sodium channel blocker VX-548 for acute pain following surgery and injuries. This marks an exciting advancement in pain management, introducing a medication with a novel mechanism of action. However, time will tell whether its benefits prove not only statistically significant but also clinically meaningful. The Tagesschau of SRF – Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen interviews PD Dr. med. Konrad Maurer of the Institut für Interventionelle Schmerzmedizin Zürich (IISZ) and is seeking an initial assessment of this announced breakthrough.

New study on Chronic Pain
The team from the University of Lausanne (CHUV) published the results of the Lausanne CoLaus cohort in the European Journal of Pain in July 2024. New SPS President 2023
The official term of office of our new President PD Dr. med. Marc R. Suter began on Friday, November 10, 2023.
PD Dr. med. Marc R. Suter is Deputy Physician in the Pain Center of the CHUV (Department of Anesthesiology). He is an anesthesiologist, pain physician and neuroscientist. As head of the Pain research group, he studies the mechanisms leading to intractable chronic neuropathic pain, with a particular focus on peripheral and central neuroinflammation and abnormal neuronal excitability. He also leads or participates in clinical research related to phenotyping and genotyping of patients with chronic pain.
