SIG Pain Physiotherapy

Declaration of intent:

The SIG “Pain Physiotherapy” goes far beyond the consideration of movement therapy for pain patients. It includes, for example, within a multimodal and interdisciplinary therapy within the framework of the bio-psycho-social model, interventions in the areas of training-induced hypalgesia (TIH), graduated movement programs, musculoskeletal manual therapy and DryNeedling, nerve mobilizations, electrotherapeutic applications such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) or thermotherapeutic interventions of local and systemic hypo- and hyperthermia.

The aims of the «SIG Pain Physiotherapy»

  • Network: Promotion of therapeutic and scientific exchange and multi-professional networking of relevant specialists. Swiss Pain Society contact for pain physiotherapy issues. Overview of an evidence-based offer of pain physiotherapy for health professionals, patients and health partners according to the criteria of recommended do’s and don’ts in categorizations according to the IASP-ICD-11 structure of nociceptive, neuropathic and nociplastic pain.
  • Public relations work: Establishment of a biopsychosocial understanding in the treatment of pain sufferers in the healthcare system and the general public. Exchange and publish information on treatment methods in pain physiotherapy.
  • Services: The SIG is the point of contact for pain physiotherapy issues in
    research, practice and further education.
  • Education: Provide continuing education opportunities for health professionals and publish and critically discuss current scientific findings on pain physiotherapy.
  • Services: The SIG is the point of contact for pain physiotherapy issues in research, practice and continuing education.

2023/2024

  • Development of an advanced training course “Special Pain Physiotherapy” in coordination and consultation with the Swiss Pain Society (SPS) to provide health professionals with profession-specific skills that develop and promote mechanism-based pain therapy as part of a multimodal concept.
  • Creation of a list of therapists with competencies in pain physiotherapy for patients and medical referrers
