Statement of intent:
The SIG “Physiotherapy for Pain” goes far beyond simply considering movement therapy for patients suffering from pain. It includes, for example, as part of a multimodal and interdisciplinary therapy based on the biopsychosocial model, interventions in the areas of training-induced hyperalgesia (TIH), graded movement programs, musculoskeletal manual therapy and dry needling, nerve mobilization, electrotherapeutic applications such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and thermotherapeutic interventions involving local and systemic hypo- and hyperthermia.
The objectives of the “SIG Physiotherapy for Pain”
- network: Promotion of therapeutic and scientific exchanges and multi-professional networking among relevant specialists. Contact person for the Swiss Pain Society for questions relating to pain physiotherapy. Overview of evidence-based pain physiotherapy services for healthcare professionals, patients, and healthcare partners, according to recommended criteria (dos and don’ts) classified according to the IASP-ICD-11 structure for nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociceptive pain.
- public relations: Implementation of a biopsychosocial approach in the treatment of people suffering from pain in the healthcare sector and within the general population. Exchange and publication of information on treatment methods used in pain physiotherapy.
- education: Offer continuing education courses to healthcare professionals, publish the latest scientific findings in pain physiotherapy, and discuss them critically.
